Underwater Vehicle CFD Analysis
Development and validation of CFD analysis best practices and procedures for underwater vehicles:
In collaboration with Steady Flux, best practices and procedures for CFD modeling and analysis of underwater vehicles were developed by simulating flow channel experiments using CFD and comparison of CFD and model test results. Particular attention was applied to assessing methods for modeling near wall viscous and turbulent effects at varying Reynolds numbers.
Practices were developed which predict drag force within 1% to 4% of experimental data, which is within the typical range of accuracy of model testing.
The procedures developed will be applied to future CFD analysis projects, providing confidence in results.
